A 38 Day Education release date announced

ATLANTA –  Solstice Publishing has announced that “A 38 Day Education,” the first full-length novel by writer John Guzzardo, will be released June 2, 2014.

“This is a complete thrill for me,” said Guzzardo.  “I truly believe this is a story worth telling, and it’s wonderful to know my work has a market.  When I was asked for a release date, I decided on June 2 because it’s my mom’s birthday.”

The story is told from the perspective of Jay Ferragamo, a college sophomore who is thrust into the role of Editor of The Scope student newspaper, only to learn the publication is almost completely broke.  Ferragamo must then navigate the treacherous waters of his college’s Student Government to gain the necessary funding to continue publishing, and then seek justice after learning the newspaper’s finances were wrecked by pilferage by the daughter of one of the town’s most powerful families.  Along the way, he learns who his real friends are, and that doing what’s right and what’s correct come down to very different choices.

The book was inspired by Guzzardo’s experiences during his first two months as Editor of his campus newspaper, The Sou’Wester, while attending Georgia Southwestern State University in 1994.  Guzzardo admitted one of the reasons for writing the book was showing how leaders can come from anywhere.

“A leader isn’t always who you think they might be,” Guzzardo said.  “More often than not, they are who we would least expect, and they are chosen not by people, but by circumstance.”

Prior to attending Georgia Southwestern State University from 1992 to 1997, Guzzardo graduated from high school in the Tampa-St. Petersburg region of Florida.  After leaving college, he soon moved back to Florida in 1998 with his wife.  In 2010, they adopted a teenage son, and relocated to Atlanta in 2013.
